Did you Lovelies know that this Thursday is International Women’s Day!?
I am a woman who loves to celebrate in general. So I am always looking for things to shine a light on or blow up some balloons for. So this week I’m geeked to celebrate…
YOU! ME! & US!
I went through the Starbucks drive-thru last Friday morning & pulled out my phone, to pay with my fancy app because I’m cool like that 😉
And a window popped up telling me that Starbucks has an International Women’s Day playlist that they play in their stores, that was available for me to listen to on Spotify! I immediately downloaded Spotify & have been jamming ever since.
It’s super intriguing to hear what songs they decided to put on this 200 song playlist to celebrate Women. So I thought, since music is one of my favorite things in this world, that I would highlight a few of my favorites for you below!
Side notes: I do not own the rights to any of the YouTube videos linked below. I do not own any rights to the lyrics which were found via Google & AZ Lyrics. [Title links to Youtube video. Lyrics links to song lyrics.] I was not paid to promote any of the links, musicians, or companies in this post. I also find it completely ridiculous that anytime I want to say, “hey, this is cool” I have to put this disclaimer in here….but it is what it is, so now that I’ve said it, let’s get to the fun!
Here is a link for the combined playlist: Namesste Momma’s International Women’s Day Playlist 🎶
“If I have to I can face anything. I am strong. I am invincible. I am woman.”
“You don’t own me. Don’t try to change me in any way. You don’t own me Don’t tie me down ’cause I’d never stay”
“Change, change, change, I want to get up out of my skin.
Tell you what If I can shake itI’m ‘a make this Something worth dreaming of.”
Great acoustic cover of this classic Cyndi Lauper song.
“Some boys take a beautiful girl & hide her away from the rest of the world.
I want to be the one to walk in the sun.
Oh, girls, they wanna have fun”
Superchick is a band that epitomizes girl power to me. They definitely had a huge influence on me during my teenage years. & This specific song made its way into the movie Legally Blonde, which so fun.
Love Love Love Sara & this song!
“I hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning
There’s no one here to save”
One of my favorite sing on the top of my lungs in the car songs!
“Now I’m floating like a butterfly. Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes.
I went from zero to my own hero”
“I know the other girlies wanna wear expensive things, like diamond rings. But I don’t wanna be the puppet that you’re playing on a string. This queen don’t need a king”
Another great cover of a classic. Originally done by Daryl Hall & John Oates.
“This one’s for the girls, Who love without holdin’ back, Who dream with everything they have. All around the world, This one’s for the girls.”
& because Moana seems to be on repeat in our home. I love most things, Disney. & this song made me cry the first few times I heard it. As someone who has been frequently described as beating to her own drum, the question in the following lyrics is one I’m very familiar with. The rest of the song encourages hope, adventure, & confidence though, which solidified its place on this list.
“I can lead with pride, I can make us strong. I’ll be satisfied if I play along.
But the voice inside sings a different song. What is wrong with me?”
This post was so much fun! It made me wonder since there are SOOOOO many great songs out there if I should do another one?! hmmm…
What are your thoughts!? I’d love to hear which songs you think should have been included or which songs from above resonated with you. Did you like the covers? Prefer the originals? Let me know in the comments below!
Let’s keep moving forward & celebrating together.
