This week’s playlist is a mix of songs about being alone, about friendship, & about being vulnerable.
Being on a manmade island can have its benefits for short periods of time. We are able shut the noise off, breathe without chaos, & relax in the quiet. By doing this we heal, rest, & recover from the storms of life that have roughed us up.
What we need to be cautious of is our resting period morphing into perpetual seclusion. This leads to a thought process that says: “I would be better off alone. It’s safer.”
It may be safer, I won’t argue that with you. However, this thought process reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
“A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.” John A. Shedd
But we were meant for so much more!
Connection with others is a part of that so much more.
I’m not talking about introverts, who don’t thrive being around people. I’m talking about purposefully being shut off to everyone. Not having a single friend who knows all of you, but not for lack of trying.
Build a bridge, send a flare, take a vacation from the island that you made as a sanctuary that has now been twisted into a prison. Come out of hiding friends, we really are better together.
I wish you never thought you had to go,
Wish you never thought you had to leave!
Together we can lift each other up,
We can build a shelter for the weak!
