Mama Jama – A Mother’s Day Playlist

This week I asked my Mum to help create the perfect Mother’s Day playlist. She came up with a list of her favorites & then I added a few that reminded me of grandmothers who have passed. & I then I threw in a few just for fun.

I hope you & the women you are celebrating this weekend, thoroughly enjoy!

You can listen to the entire playlist titled “Mama Jama”… HERE

1. I Get to Be the One | JJ Heller

One of my Mum’s favorite songs of all time.

2. Fields of Grace | Big Daddy Weave

There’s a place that I lose myself within
There’s a place I find myself again
Dancin’ with my Father God in fields of Grace

A fun remake for Mother’s Day of a classic. Share this song with your Mum to tell her how lovely you see her as. The loveliest of them all.

3. Isn’t She Lovely | Anthem Lights

Isn’t she lovely
Isn’t she wonderful
Isn’t she precious
Such a beautiful soul
I never thought
That I would be
A son of someone as lovely as she
Isn’t she lovely
She’s my Mom

Now for the Disney portion of the list! A classic from Peter Pan about the importance of having a mother & the blessing that she is.

4. Your Mother & Mine | Peter Pan

The helping hand that guides you along
Whether you’re right, whether you’re wrong

For the Moms who are no longer with us here on earth. Remember them & know they are close, because they are in our hearts.
5. Remember Me | Coco

6. Beauty & the Beast | Angela Lansbury

Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
Ever just as sure
As the sun will rise

7. A Spoon Full of Sugar | Mary Poppins

In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
The job’s a game

8. Mama Said | The Shirelles

When mama said that is was okay
Mama said that it was quite alright

These next few songs were all on my Mum’s list of favorite songs…so although not about mothers, they might just bring a smile to your Mom’s face hearing them & remembering the “good ol’ days” 😉

9. Celebration | Kool & the Gang

10. Loco-motion | Little Eva

There’s never been a dance that’s so easy to do
It even makes you happy when you’re feeling blue
So come on, come on, do the loco-motion with me

11. The Twist | Chubby Checker

Round and around and
Up and down we go
(Yeah, oh, baby)
Making with the
Shaking to and fro

12. Slow Dancing | Johnny Rivers

And we just flow together when the lights are low
Shadows dancin’ all across the wall
Music’s playin’ so soft and slow
Rest of the world so far away and small

I snuck this one onto the list, because I know how much my Mum likes this song. & what a rebel she was for liking it back in the day, lol.

13. Hanky Panky | Tommy James & the Shondells

My baby does the hanky panky

I know this was the title of the blog, but I didn’t know all the lyrics when I chose it! Then I was hesitant to add the song, once I read the lyrics, lol. Hunky Hubby convinced me to add it, because all Mommas are beautiful. & I totally agree!

Urban Dictionary’s top definion of Mama Jama: Sexy, sassy, basically a perfect woman.

14. She’s a Bad Mama Jama | Carl Carlton

15. Yakety Yak |The Coasters

Just finish cleanin’ up your room
Let’s see that dust fly with that broom
Get all that garbage out of sight
Or you don’t go out Friday night
Yakety yak (don’t talk back)

16. You Mama Don’t Dance |Loggins & Messina

Your mama don’t dance and your daddy don’t rock and roll

I asked my Mum what kind of music her Mom liked to listen to & this is what she came up with…

17. Stand By Your Man | Tammy Wynette

Stand by your man,
Give him two arms to cling to,
And something warm to come to

18. Walkin After Midnight | Patsy Cline

I go out walkin’ after midnight
Out in the moonlight

When our oldest was born, my Mum actually printed this up to give to him. It’s a song very dear to her heart.

19. Angell’s Lullaby | Reba

You’ll never know how much I love you
But I’ll keep on telling you my whole life through
Now I believe in miracles, and you’re the reason why
So dream on while I sing you my angel’s lullaby

20. Strangely Dim | Francesca Battistelli

When I fix my eyes on all that You are
Then every doubt I feel
Deep in my heart
Grows strangely dim
All my worries fade
And fall to the ground

21. He Knows My Name | Francesca Battistelli

I’m not meant to just stay quiet
I’m meant to be a lion
I’ll roar beyond a song
With every moment that I’ve got
True to who You are
You saw my heart
And made
Something out of nothing

For you Mum, my best friend, I love you ❤

22. Mom | Meghan Trainor ft Kelli Trainor

See we go way back, oh, I remember
All the times that I cried, she made me feel better
She loving me, loving me, loving me, loving me, love
She love me like nobody else

The song we used for the slide show @ my Gran’s memorial. This will be our first Mother’s Day without her….& I’m experiencing all the emotions. So I love the reminder this song brings, that she’s having the happiest day, every day.

23. Oh Happy Day | Sister Act 2

Oh Happy Day

THIS! Love love love this song, reminding all of us Mommas that our kids love us, just the way we are.

24. Hey Mama | Hound + Fox

This last song is the one that we listened to on repeat from the funeral home to the cemetery when my Hunky Hubby’s Gramma passed away last year. He said it was fun & upbeat & reminded him of her. Making it now have a permanent place in our hearts.

25. In the Mood | Glenn Miller

Instrumental
